Speaking of phases, your Little Billy Kickstarter Rewards are in the process of entering production! Among these is my upcoming CD "Old Souls...Young Hearts". Originally performed by metal martial artists, Dragon Sound, from the 80's cult classic, Miami Connection (WATCH THE TRAILER), the message, feel, and heart of this song are exactly what Little Billy is all about. ENTER THE WORLD OF RED MOON DRAGON

It is my pleasure to feature this young, aspiring, and very talented teen as this year's finale AOTM. Her name is Brittany Barrera, but you may know her best as Deviant Art's Red Moon Dragon, creator of the epic web comic, Skies Aflame! I met Brittany at the Burbank Public Library's 2010 Anime Fest. In addition to showing much love and passion for animated content, as well as the craft itself, she also expressed a rare level of enthusiasm and ambition, which has since driven her onward to establish her brand online.

We can all learn from this now-essential approach to self-marketing, and I think her work speaks for itself. Thank you for sharing your gift and great art with us, Brittany (and for featuring Little Billy on your sites!) I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say keep up the outstanding work.

WATCH SCOUT RASKIN'S "EASTER VS. SANTA" HERE!

And finally, speaking of Kickstarter and Christmas (drumroll, please) it is with great pleasure and terror that I present Easter vs. Santa, the latest twisted toon by fellow Kickstarter, Scout Raskin! Scout is one of the few filmmakers (and ONLY producer) I've met with a true passion for and understanding of 1920's animation. Inspired mainly by cartoon master and pioneer, Max Fleischer, her desire to revisit and accurately recreate the look, feel, and style of the Pre-Golden-Age is always abundant and successfully present in her films.

In the true spirit of that era, this short is targeted at adults, so all you parents may want to check it out first before plopping Timmy and Tammy in front of it with their santa hats and cookies! ;) Keep an eye out in 2013 for Scout's upcoming release Bakerman And The Bunnymen. Congrats and thanks for sharing another awesome cartoon with us, Scout! On behalf of everyone here at the CR Newsletter, keep 'em coming!!

AND THAT'S A WRAP!!!

What a great end to a crazy year, everyone! It's been a wild ride and I know some of us had our ups and downs (myself included), but we're all in this together and the clean slate is just around the corner. No matter who you are or where you're at, HANG IN THERE!! God is very much alive in this world...why not invite Him into ours? Let's keep that in our hearts and minds as we move forward, enjoy the holidays, and remember the true reason for this season. Have a berry Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, guys!! =D May God give you what you need and Santa bring you what you want. Catch you all in 2013!

Merry Christmas,

(INTERVIEW)

Rad tidings my dudical amigos, and welcome to this very special "Kickstarter-Exclusive" edition of the Chance Raspberry Newsletter! IT'S FINALLY HAPPENED: On Thursday, September 20th, 2012 (because Thursday's the new Friday), Little Billy, my first, favorite, and most requested cartoon creation went LIVE on Kickstarter.com!

WHAT IS LITTLE BILLY?
When I was 8 years old (3rd Grade), I was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome. At the time, it was a rare, new disorder making me part of the original Generation Rx. I was the quintessential "weird kid"! Nervous ticks, medicated, never really into sports or "the scene"; I loved heavy metal and horror so I frightened my peers. In short, I spent a lot of time alone...drawing. Today, N.I.M.H. (The National Institute of Mental Health) maintains that HALF the U.S. possesses some sort of condition similar to mine, meaning said generation is now more common than ever. This is my story - maybe it's yours, too.

LITTLE BILLY is an original, animated nostalgia series I have created for children with Special Educational needs, and the first cartoon ever to star a child that struggles with (and overcomes) a rare neurological condition.

Jam-packed with outrageous humor, youthful adventure, sincere life lessons, and of course, throwbacks to all your favorite childhood consumer brands, products, and content, the Little Billy series marks a return to the heart, depth, and morale of classic TV. Set in the 1980s, inspired by my own life and family sitcoms like Perfect Strangers, and traditionally animated in the Golden Age style of classic Looney Tunes, Little Billy is a heartfelt homage to all forms of childhood nostalgia, specifically speaking out to kids (and adults) with Tourette syndrome, ADD, OCD, and many other conditions.

THE CAMPAIGN: Little Billy Vol. 1 "Special Ed"ition DVD/Blu-Ray
THE GOAL: $30,000 in 30 Days to fund production & distribution
OPTIONS: Pledge Amounts will range from $10 to $10,000
REWARDS: Perks for pledging include (but are not limited to)...
- SIGNED Little Billy Vol. 1 "Special Ed"ition DVDs & Blu-Rays
- SIGNED CDs of the Chance Raspberry LP, "Old Souls...Young Hearts"
- SIGNED Prints, Original Drawings, Animation Cels, & Production Art
- Pilot Credits ranging from "Special Thanks" to "Executive Producer"
- Exclusive Little Billy custom Apparel, Collectibles, & MORE!
- Personalized caricatures of YOU in the Little Billy style

EVERYONE GETS REWARDED FOR PLEDGING!

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

FUN FACT: $30K is exactly one-tenth (1/10) the minimum production cost of a single industry-made episode! I believe I can produce a cartoon of equal or greater quality for less money, and would love the chance to prove it.

WILL KIDS EMBRACE LITTLE BILLY?
MONDO kudos and a very special thanks to my pal, Andy Manley (Age 15 - Washington) for answering this question by creating and posting the first Little Billy Fan Art from his iPad on Friday, Sept. 7th (3 days after the trailer's release!!) In response to a "thank you" I left on his Facebook, Andy wrote, "You're welcome! And thank you for actually looking at it! This was just going to be a quick doodle on the iPad, but then I ended up taking my time. You're an inspiration to me, and I want to see more of your art on Facebook. When this gets on Kickstarter, I definitely want to back this project up! It's also an honor to be the first person to do fan art for this."

The character on Billy's T-shirt in this drawing is my original teen-comic strip icon, Bearman. Andy went on to say, "...I hope to draw more Little Billy in the future! He's a really fun character to draw. And PLEASE post more of your art! I read all your Bearman comic strips and want to read more. Bearman, Calvin and Hobbes, and Garfield are the only strips worth reading to me." What an honor and blessing! Thank you from my heart and soul for your kind words, Andy. You made my day. =)

Photobucket

BILLY IS REAL!
See any resemblance? The above (right) is a picture I took of my little cousin, Ayden (Age 2) being entranced by a passing thunderstorm. The picture was taken a few days after the creation and release of the trailer image (left). This is just one of Little Billy's many perks - he's a real character living the same life as real kids! And what's that coif-like shape on Ayden's T-shirt? Look's familiar...

Photobucket

WHAT'S ON THE DVD/BLU-RAY?
The Little Billy Vol. 1 "Special Ed"ition DVD/Blu-Ray will not only serve as the official pitch pilot for the complete Little Billy series, it will also be a modern educational video for all kids with Special Educational needs! DOCTORS, TEACHERS, and PARENTS everywhere will be able to educate and entertain their patients, students, and children with this animated adventure starring someone just like them!

LITTLE BILLY VOL. 1: "SPECIAL ED"ITION
- An Introduction by Chance Raspberry
- The full-length, full color, TV Pilot of Little Billy (For Kids)

WHAT IS KICKSTARTER?
Kickstarter.com is the #1 web-wide funding platform for creative projects. HERE'S HOW IT WORKS: A creator launches a campaign to fund a personal project and offers rewards, such as screen credit, merchandise, autographed memorabilia, or the product itself, to all investors in exchange for their financial pledges. Neither the investors nor Kickstarter obtain any creative control, ownership, or stake in the creator, their company, or their project.
The cost of this service is an 8-10% cut of the creator's pledge total (split between Kickstarter and their partner, Amazon.com).

Since its initial launch just a few years ago, Kickstarter (powered by online giant, Amazon.com) has sparked what they're now calling the Crowd-Funding Revolution, and has literally made the approach of pitching to "middleman" entities obsolete! We, the creators, now have complete control over funding, producing, and distributing the pure, uncut content our audience wants - DIRECTLY TO THEM! Many successful creators have been (and are) already utilizing this powerful tool, including the renowned John Kricfalusi (creator of Ren & Stimpy) and Joe Murray (creator of Camp Lazlo and Rocko's Modern Life).

The best thing about Kickstarter is ALL transactions are handled by Amazon.com, the world's #1 online store! Pledges are made through Kickstarter's platform and processed by Amazon as if you were simply shopping online. Better still, just like a pre-order, Amazon will store your pledge transaction and you will NOT BE CHARGED until the campaign's financial goal is met or exceeded. If I don't meet my goal on deadline, ALL pledges are voided and everyone keeps their money...please, help me NOT let that happen! ;)

AND THAT'S A WRAP!!!

There you have it, gang! I can't tell you how excited I am to finally be launching this project after over a decade of hard work and development!! Little Billy is my baby - my Simpsons, my Ren & Stimpy, my Family Guy. 10+ years of experience as a working professional in the animation industry has taught me many things (including how to successfully deliver this pilot), but perhaps the biggest lesson I've learned is that cartoons like this don't get made by big studios, companies, or networks - no one wants to take the risk. By joining forces, you can help me reach the level of Matt Groening, John K., or Seth MacFarlane, AND be directly involved in producing the pure, uncut entertainment YOU WANT - DELIVERED "MIDDLEMAN-FREE" RIGHT TO YOU!!!

To wrap things up on a super celebratory note, I'm pleased to announce that all three of the Kickstarter projects I invested in (featured in last month's issue) have since been successfully funded!! CONGRATULATIONS to Scout Raskin, Jan Utstein & Digger T Mesch, and the notorious creator of Ren & Stimpy, John Kricfalusi for meeting and exceeding their goals!

My next "Little Billy Launch" issue of the CR Newsletter will go out as soon as this Kickstarter campaign is LIVE (on or around September 20th). Keep an eye on your Inbox and Junkmail folders for that, news, and more details, including how I came up with Little Billy and that BONUS CARTOON I plan to make if we exceed our goal! Thank you all so much for your love and support all these years, and a SPECIAL THANKS to RedMoonDragon for promoting this campaign on her new website (check it out here and look forward to her official featured article when the "AdSpace" and "Artist Of The Month" sections return!!) Be back soon, pals, and until then...

WE HAVE THE POWER!!!

Swift greetings from "The Cave", everyone!  Welcome back to this pre-cursor Issue #13.5 of The Chance Raspberry Newsletter.  As I write this, my studio, RazMcK (Raz-Mic-Kay) Productions, is prepping the official launch of its worldwide animation debut on KickStarter.com!!  This project is one many of you have known about (and have been requesting) for a looong time, so I'm thrilled to say after all these years, it's finally coming to life...with YOUR help!

Chance's TOP 3 Investments
("Artists Of The Month")

PROJECT #1: BAKERMAN AND THE BUNNYMEN

From Sonic Bunny Production's Producer/Director, Scout Raskin, comes this all-new, original short film.  Traditionally animated in the early, 1920s style of Max Fleischer, this cartoon features a baker who is cannibalized by his own treats...of course, I was immediately on board! =F  Like so many of the classic Fleischer films, Bakerman takes place in a world where everything is alive and fluid.  It will be animated in black and white by Aaron Long (Fester The Fish), and feature an original early jazz score by Brian Sadler.  Perks for donating to fund this project include the Bakerman DVD, homemade cookies, a Bakerman baking set, and lots more!  Once complete, the 4-minute short will be submitted to festivals worldwide.  The official Bakerman press release and an exclusive interview with Scout are attached to this email!  Thanks so much for returning to share with us here at the CR Newsletter, Scout, and for putting your heart and soul into making this classical film.  We can't wait to see it succeed!!

Photobucket
PROJECT #2: AGENT 88 WEB SERIES

Artists of the world unite to create this highly anticipated web series about an 88-year-old woman who just happens to be the ultimate badass!  The team behind this project have world-class, filmmaking talent on their side, and their pitches, interviews, and behind-the-scenes videos (all waiting to greet you via the above link) speak for themselves.  Perks for donating to Agent 88 include toys, clothing, hard and soft cover versions of The Art of 88 book, the Agent 88 DVD, and personal encounters with the cast and crew.  Check out and help fund this project while it's still on the rise...it's a classic waiting to be born.

Photobucket
PROJECT #3: JOHN K's CANS WITHOUT LABELS

Ren & Stimpy creator, John Kricfalusi, returns with this all-new cartoon classic starring your favorite and mine...George Liquor, AMERICAN!!!  When John was a boy, his dad used to "spoil" the family with random, off-brand products and cola-like substances.  These bottom-shelf excuses, however, were a treat compared to what they normally got....CANS WITHOUT LABELS!!  That's right, kids - blank, tin cans full of anyone's guess with NO label at all...PUT YOUR iPHONE DOWN AND THINK ABOUT THAT!  ;)  Now, after all these years, John K. brings us the story of what was in those cans and a life without labels.  The 8-10 minute cartoon will be traditionally animated using paper and software.  Perks for donating include the Cans Without Labels DVD, Jumbo George Liquor and Jimmy The Idiot toys, SIGNED original artwork, and even caricatures of YOU in John K's trademark style!!  If his financial goal is exceeded by 50% or more, John plans to create an additional BONUS CARTOON!!!  What an honor it is to feature such a well-known success in my newsletter.  Thanks for bringing back the good times, memories, and cartoon fun, John!!  Our kidneys quiver with anticipation!

AND THAT'S A WRAP!!!

You guys are the best!  Thanks for reading to the end (even if you skipped around a little) and for considering a donation to any of the above projects.  I know their creators appreciate it beyond words...and so will I.  Speaking of which, for 24 hours ONLY, CD Baby is giving 100% of all music sales directly to the artists!!  If you have not yet purchased any of my music, or there's a song you're lacking or like, please support my upcoming debut album by visiting CDBaby.com/Artist/ChanceRaspberry and buying a song or two.  Mad love and thanks in advance, guys!  Till next time, keep creating, enjoying summer, and tooning into The Chance Raspberry Newsletter for the big RazMcK announcement!! =D  Catch ya later, dudes and dudettes...

Party On,
Chance

WATCH THE "CALIFORNIA KIDDS" PITCH VIDEO HERE!!!

Extra!  Extra!  We have a special, last-minute addition to this month's rockin' issue!!  It gives me great pleasure to preset, for the first time ever, the California Kidds!!!  As I mentioned in my last newsletter, Amazon.com recently launched their own production studio and is now requesting pitches.  We responded!  This original, animated series was conceived many years ago by my good friend and business partner, Corey Mitchel, and in fact, is the reason we became friends.  Corey needed an artist to bring his characters to life and was introduced to me by our mutual creative comrade, the one and only, Tone Rodriguez (who got me hired on the Family Guy Trading Card series.)  Now, after working together for many years on many projects, Corey and I have finally launched our first online pitch campaign for the series that started it all!  You can watch the pitch video (directed by Corey in ToonBoom Animate Pro), download the pitch bible and pilot script, and RATE our project, all exclusively on AmazonStudios.com.

IMPORTANT: WE NEED YOUR VOTES!  Amazon now owns the option to this series for 45 days, and will pay $55,000 to the creators of any greenlit property they feel is wanted by their audience...that's YOU!!  The higher and more bountiful our ratings are, the better our chances of selling the show, so please "vote" by rating and commenting on this project, and help spread the word about California Kidds!  Thanks so much in advance for all your support, guys!!  We strongly encourage you to give your own ideas a shot by pitching, and will publicly acknowledge all parties involved in helping us get our project off the ground!!!

VOTE FOR THE ANIMATION ACADEMY HERE!!!

It's payback time, amigos!!  As featured in May's Special 12.5 Edition that just went out, our excellent friend, The Animation Academy, has become eligible for a $250,000 small business grant from Chase Bank!  A minimum of 250 votes was required to qualify.  On Friday, June 22nd at 1:35 pm, The Academy achieved that goal and has since broken 325 votes, making them #5 of the 60 registered businesses in Burbank, CA.  Naturally, the school is overjoyed and very grateful, but there's still time left for YOU to help!!!  The poles close on June 30th and TAA's new goal is to cross the finish line as the #1 small business in Burbank.

Once the contest ends, each business must submit their official application for the grant, and the business with the most votes stands a much greater chance of winning the money.  This is our opportunity to repay a remarkable institution that has blessed us for nearly 15 years with unparalleled education and financial aid!  They are also a key ingredient to my success in the animation industry, so  I hope you'll join me in thanking them for all they've done!!  Please VOTE, "Like"/Friend them on Facebook, and check out the brand new Zembillas.blogspot.com to experience the quality of what you're voting for!!!  Thank you all so much for helping to support this great cause and stay tooned to the next CR Newsletter for the exciting results.

DAVIDCHOE.COM

Now here's an artist I've been meaning to feature for a long time - the one and only David Choe.  I met David when I was just 7 or 8 years old.  He was my first mentor and art teacher (at age 13.)  Back then, I had just been diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome (to many of you out there...SURPRISE, SURPRISE) and had a hard time sitting still in church (now there's a fun image for you.) =D  David, God bless him, took it upon himself to sit next to me and draw me pictures.  No matter what I wanted to see, he drew it for me.  Monsters, ghosts, demons...in church...yeah, I know, I was a pretty twisted kid (hehe, what's changed??) ;F  But I digress.  The point is over time, I began mimicking and learning from David's work, and before too long, I was drawing my own comics and versions of similar characters.  And all because this slightly older kid cared enough to hang out with me and share.  Thank you, David.  I'll never forget that!  To anyone not yet familiar with David's work, he is truly a modern master.  From his early Giant Robot toys and original comic series, Slow Jams, to his portrait of President Obama and all the murals, cars, and graffiti in between, David's diverse talent is more than a force to be reckoned with.  Check out all this and more @ his official website to see what I mean!  Keep up the amazing work, David, and thank you so much for all your help, attention, and inspiration.  I love you for it, brotha...from the heart.

AND NOW FOR THE NEWS...

PITCH TO AMAZON STUDIO!

Well well, what have we here??  Looks like Amazon.com's all-new Amazon Studio is now taking pitches!!!  With "New Media" officially taking over the industry and more companies looking for original content, it's truly the dawn of a clean slate for creators worldwide!  See what the word on Industry Row is @ AnimationNation.com and check out the deal(s) Amazon is offering, guys - it's pretty exciting stuff.  This could be a Golden Age for us, so if you're ready and like what you see and hear, PITCH!!!  Especially if you have a project you're not married to.  I am.  The worst you can get is a "No" or a nothing, so why not take your shot...it could become an amazing opportunity!  And hey, if nothing pans out, we've still got YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud, Blogger, Etsy, Zazzle, and all the other great sites that allow us to deliver our own, affordable, home-studio content directly to our audience(s) in the industry-standard format for FREE!!

AND THAT'S A WRAP!!!

Whew!  What a rant. LOL  Thanks for reading to the end, everyone.  I hope you've enjoyed this issue and can't wait for the next one!  If so, that makes two of us - there's lots more where this came from. =)  Till next time, take care, God bless, and have a stellar rest o' the Spring!!

Blaze On,
CHANCE
